Welcome to my blog!

This is blog is about me dabbling with a little bit of everything, and not being particularly good at anything. And about the places I've been either on vacation or SAG:ing my husbands bicycle trips.

Bike Barge Trip - Haarlem to Leiden - August 2015 - Day 4

Breakfast was at 8 am. It was pretty good and after eating we all made our lunches to go. We headed out soon after 9 am. The beginning of the ride was nice, we went through Haarlem and it seems to be a really nice smaller town. Soon we arrived at the dunes area. It is completely different than what I thought Netherlands is. We did have nice bike paths but there were lots of those Tour de France type cyclists passing us.

The dunes paths are winding and a little bit hilly, but nothing major. The day was sunny and in the high 70's with a nice light wind. But there was no shade anywhere. Many of us got a mild sunburn. We stopped at 3 different towns. They were all big beach resorts with lots of people. In Noordwijk, where we stopped for lunch, was this car and flower show where the cars were decorated with real flowers, sort of like the Rose Bowl, but with the whole flowers, like flower arrangements. Some of them were quite amazing.

We ended up riding almost 50 km or 29 miles today. Our boat is moored in Leiden and it too seems to be a nice small town with an old town center. We had dinner on the barge. Tonight it was a Dutch and Flemish Sunday dinner with beef stew, potatoes, red cabbage, hot apple sauce and salad. Appetizer was a vegetable soup and dessert was rhubarb with custard and gingerbread on the bottom.

After dinner most of the people went for a tour of Leiden lead by Teo our tour guide and his sister and brother-in-law who live here. Laura and I  weren't' feeling well, so we stayed behind.
